Our team and our resources |
Our team comprises a skilled staff with backgrounds in museum education, re-enactment, theatre, carpentry, sailing, and museum retail.
Our varied Education Programme is led by experienced and enthusiastic costumed interpreters, many of whom have worked for us for a number of years. The Golden Hinde is a working ship and learning here is a ‘hands-on’ experience. Students have an opportunity to turn the capstan and learn how to fire a cannon; in addition, depending on the length of the activity, they have a chance to move the yardarm using ropes and pulleys, and have a go at Tudor navigation. The ship is equipped with a range of replica ship furniture and artifacts, all of which can be freely handled by pupils. These resources include minion guns (cannon), crossbow, barrels and chests, pewter plates and tankards, and a replica of Drake’s Drum. Tudor sailors’ dress is available for students and staff participating in day-long Living History activities; our interpreters wear costume at all times. |

| Programme flexibility and access | |
Our programmes are generally created for students of ages 6 – 12, although we can cater for students of all ages. Please inform us of the age of your students when making your booking. Teachers are welcome to visit at any time in order to see the venue or carry out a Risk Assessment.
Our guides are experienced in teaching students with Special Needs. Unfortunately, due to the permanent fabric of the ship, the Golden Hinde is not wheelchair-accessible. Decks are accessed by steep staircases; we ask that visitors move down these backwards as if on a ladder. Living History events provide meals, which are suitable for vegetarians. Please inform us on booking if your students have any special dietary requirements and we will do our best to accommodate you. |
